Fire safety equipment
Each apartment is equipped with smoke detectors and fire suppression sprinklers. There are also hand-held fire extinguishers under the sink in the apartments, out in the common hallways, and in the garages. Do not tamper with the fire safety equipment, as this will send a signal to campus facilities personnel and may set off a building siren. If you suspect a problem with any of the fire safety equipment, call 310-825-3595 immediately. Do not attempt to repair safety equipment yourself.
If the building siren is activated
- You must evacuate the building, even if you suspect it might be a false alarm
- Do not use the elevator
- Use the nearest exit and leave the building
- Once outside, move away from the building to a safe location
- Do not block streets or driveways
- Follow any directions given by staff or emergency personnel
- Wait for emergency personnel to declare "all clear" before reentering the building
Be Prepared
- Plan out two different emergency exit routes from your apartment
- Note the location of the fire extinguishers in and around your apartment
- Don't get locked out, always keep your keys with you
