Freshmen Offer FAQs

We’re so excited to welcome you this fall! Check out the below FAQs for more information on the freshmen offer process.

What are the steps to accepting my offer?

  1. Log into the Housing Portal.
  2. Click on “Housing Application” in the top menu.
  3. Re-enter the Undergraduate Academic Year term.
  4. Review your housing offer details, including building and room type.
  5. Select your meal plan.
  6. Sign your housing contract.
  7. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian also signs your contract.
  8. Download a copy of your contract.
  9. Make your initial payment if prompted.
  10. After submitting your payment details, wait for your browser to redirect you back to the housing portal to complete your offer acceptance.
  11. Review the GradGuard Renter's Insurance information from a third party vendor (purchase is not required).

You will know you have successfully completed the process when you reach the "Application Status" page.

What makes me eligible for a $500 initial payment versus no initial payment?
A $500 initial payment is required if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Your financial aid information does not qualify you for a deferred payment
  • Your FAFSA is still processing
  • You do not have a FAFSA on file

This is not an extra fee, it goes toward your fall quarter housing costs.

How do I pay my initial payment?
You will be redirected to a payment site to complete your payment after you sign your contract. Once you have paid, you’re not done accepting your offer! You will be redirected back to your housing portal, and you need to click “Complete Offer Acceptance.”

I'm an international student and my credit card payment keeps getting declined. What should I do?
Some international MasterCards don’t work with our payment system. We recommend using a Visa, Discover, or American Express card instead. If you're still having trouble, try reaching out to your bank or use a different payment method.

Can I use a wire transfer to pay the initial housing payment?
No, unfortunately, wire transfers aren’t accepted for the initial payment. Since the payment is processed outside of BruinBill, you'll need to use a credit card (Visa, Discover, or American Express) or another accepted method listed on the payment site.

My credit card payment option disappeared, and I don’t have a U.S. bank account. How can I fix this?
If your card is declined multiple times, the system may think it's fraud and turn off the credit card option. To get it turned back on, contact support directly at: https://studentsupport.transactcampus.com/hc/en-us.

What if I want to change my room?
You need to first accept your current offer, then you can submit a Change of Assignment Request (CAR). Please note, CARs are not guaranteed and based on space availability.

Why was I offered to my last room type preference?
We do our best to match you with your preferred room type, but space is limited in each building and room type. What you get depends on what’s available when your application is reviewed.

I was offered to a gender inclusive room, what does that mean?
If you selected gender inclusive housing in your application, you will be assigned with other students who also requested gender inclusive housing. Your gender will not be reviewed when assigning your roommates, meaning that you may be assigned with somebody who has a different gender identity from you.

I no longer want gender inclusive housing, can I opt out?
Yes, you are able to opt out of gender inclusive housing. To opt out:

  1.  Accept your housing offer as is.
  2. In the housing portal, select "Manage Your Housing" from the menu bar.
  3. Select the booking for the term you wish to make the change.
  4. Select "Change Gender Inclusive Housing Request" from the drop down and proceed through the process.

Keep in mind:

  • All requests to change a gender inclusive housing preference will be approved.
  • Housing Services will try to keep you in the same building and/or room type, but a change may result in a different assignment and/or a contract cost increase.

When will I receive my room number and roommate information?
We will send room, roommate, and move-in information by the end of August.

Can I still request roommates?
If you have both been offered to the same building and room type, then you can mutually request one another on the housing application, and we will look to assign you to the same room in August. If you have been offered to different buildings or room types, you will need to submit a Change of Assignment Request to try and be moved into the same building/room type for your roommate group to be reviewed.

I have submitted an appeal for accommodations to the Center for Accessible Education (CAE) and am waiting to hear back, should I still accept this offer?
Yes, please accept the current offer. We will look to change your assignment if we subsequently receive an approved accommodation from CAE.

When is move-in?
Move-In takes place over 4 days, prior to the start of the academic year. For the 2026-2027 academic year, move-in is Wednesday, September 16 - Saturday, September 19, 2026. You will be assigned a specific date and time in late August (depending on what building you are in). If you need to make travel arrangements early, please do so for the dates listed above. If you are assigned a different date and time, you can make changes to your assigned time after you receive your assignment information.
